How BrainCore Therapy Works

In order to understand how BrainCore Therapy works, we need to understand how our brains work. The systems that govern the brain are both the most complex and the most compact on earth. To funtion optimally, parts of our brains must talk to one another constantly. This communication is accomplished through transmission of electrical signals along neurons that connect one area of the brain to another.

These electrical signals are known as brainwaves. Using non-invasive, surface sensors which are placed on the surface of a patient's scalp, the BrainCore system translates a patient's brainwaves on to a computer screen for observation.

There are five distinct brain wave frequencies, associated with different states of mind:

Beta Waves: Produced when you are awake and engaged in active thought

SMR Waves: Produced when completely still and focused on a task

Alpha Waves: Produced mostly when you close your eyes and relax

Theta Waves: Produced when you start to fall asleep

Delta Waves: Produced when you are sleeping

More than thirty years of research has demonstrated that, for any given circumstance, there is an accepted normal pattern of brain wave activity. This healthy pattern is referred to as Neurological Regulation. A healthy, balanced, and properly regulated nervous system will produce the appropriate brain waves at appropriate times and levels. In some individuals, the normal brain waves patterns are disrupted, resulting in a condition known as Neurological Dysregulation Syndrome (NDS).

Some of the symptoms that may result from NDS are ADD / ADHD, headaches, migraines, memory loss, learning disorders, overeating or binge eating, Fibromyalgia, chronic pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, anxiety disorders, insomnia, and age-related cognitive disorders.

BrainCore Therapy is a form of neurofeedback, also know as neurotherapy, that allows the nervous system to retrain itself to create new, more appropriate brain wave patterns and to break the cycle of NDS. Although BrainCore Therapy is complex, the training activity is simple, as well as painless, drugless, and non-invasive.

Surface sensors are placed on the scalp and EEG activity is transmitted to the computer screen. Visual feedback related to the patient's brainwaves is shown instantly in the form of an animated game such as Pac Man or a movie. The game or movie only plays when the patient is producing the correct brainwave. If the patient's brain stops producing the desired brainwave, the game or movie stop playing. During the course of ten to twenty training sessions, the brain trains itself to begin producing appropriate brainwaves at appropriate times, resulting in an alleviation of symptoms.
